How to Apply Decals
Basic
Supplies Needed for Decaling
Clean Work Area
The First and one of the most important Things, is a clean work area
BE ORGANIZED
White
Paper Towels or White Cotton Cloth
Use Some type of white cloth or towel, As a colored towel or cloth has some type
of ink or dye in them, Which may transfer from the towel to your project,
Spend the extra time to find a white cloth, to protect your project
Scissors or Excato Blade
Use a scissors that feels comfortable in your hands, As you'll be making hair
line cuts next to the decal image, and want to get as close to image as possible
Triangle Excato blade works really well for making cuts in the wheels wells and
around window openings , Only use an excato blade with a hard surface underneath
your cutting area
Bowl
& Water
Cereal Bowl 4-6 inches in diameter With 1 inch of warm water
Better to have a bowl that's larger than you need, so the complete decal sits in
there with no problems. you really only need as much water as the decal needs to
floats
Safe
place for your Projects to dry
Place your finished decal projects in a place where there spaced out and allowed
to dry and not in any danger of falling onto hard surfaces , as the
casting still need the final clear coats
Clear
Coat
Your Flamingraphic decals will require you to
clear coat them to protect them from water, when releasing them from the paper
backing
Apply even coat of clear on decal till there is a constant shine across
decal
Tape decal to card stock or a sheet of paper, keeping the tape away
from the printed image so when you spray the
force of the spray will not blow it away, use clear paint of the same
brand as the finished casting clear coat, different brands of paint may
cause a bad reaction when the clear coats are applied to the complete casting ,

Appling
Decals
With Supplies in Hand
Cut your first decal out as close to image as you can get, without cutting image
, place ink side down in water,
Placing it ink side down, will keep the paper from rolling up
start cutting your second decal, after the second one is cut out ,
check on the first one to see if its ready,
they take about 1 minute
to release from paper, you should be able to get a rhythm going cutting
and applying the decals grab the decal from water and with your thumb gently
push on the decal to get it to release
Push the decal about 1/3 off the paper ,
with the decal pushed 1/3 off paper, place the 1/3 on the cast , with your other
thumb hold the the 1/3 on the cast, and pull the paper out from under the other
2/3s
using your paper towel, ,fold it over to make it a
coupe layers thick,
Solutions
This product may or may not be needed ,But nice to have on hand
Badger Decal Setting Solution
Will give the decal a little added stick, Simply apply the product by brushing
it on the casting before you apply your decals ,and again after you have applied
decals it allows the decal to mold into those hard spots in the contours
of the casting
Pearl Ex Powders Give
your decals the look of pearls Note this process must
be used with clar decal film
this process is done before you apply decals , mix pearl ex in with clear ,and
shoot the clear on to the casting . the pearls will give the base color the look
of pearls. once the clear has dried, apply decals , and give your casting a few
more light coats of clear to seal the decal onto casting, and to also give the
the complete casting a deep pearl luster
Clear
Back Film
Clear & White back Decals are applied using the same process
There are only a couple differences between the two in terms of out come ,
You can not apply clear decals to dark castings, as the inks will not show
up against the dark back ground , So you are limited to light and pastel color
castings, which in most cases work fine for most of our decals ,they work
on a a variety of light colors, you just need to use your own judgment when
looking at the decals colors and the casting color you'll apply them to, And to
keep in mind the whatever the casting color ,it will show through at some degree
which may or may not have an effect on the decal color
White
White Decals Can be
applied to any color Diecast
Again there are a couple limitations.
Being the fact that the decal is being printed with ink, it will not match any
type of custom paints. you will need to match the paint to the color of the
decal, if using an air brush this should not be a problem
If using rattle can you
will need to blend the decal with the cast color
Just dip a tooth pick in your paint a drag it along the decal edge , to get the
blend, this will need to be done in any case when using white back decals to
cover the white edge of the decal,
Than clear coating the
diecast again, and using a high grit sandpaper to [1000- 2000 wet dry paper]
smooth out the blended edge of decal
this will give the decal and the casting a seamless edge
BEFORE
THIS IS DONE GIVE PROJECT A SHOOT OR TWO OF CLEAR COAT , This
will prevent paint from seeping under decal
And messing things up
ALL DECALS WILL REQUIRE CLEAR COAT PAINT
BEFORE SUBMERGING INTO WATER
